About
Rushlight is an independent, women-owned theatre company based in New York City, founded by theatre artists Kate Lewis, Allison Mattox, and Emma Foster. After working together during a production of The Wolves at The Flea Theater, they joined creative forces to build a company dedicated to illuminating honest, accessible stories.
True to our name, a rushlight—a simple candle made from the rush plant—once lit the homes of working-class people across the British Isles. Like its namesake, our company exists to spark, reveal, and remain within reach.
Mission
We hold that some stories are best told on stage. We believe in the power of live theatre, and intentionally choose projects that benefit from being performed in intimate settings.
Above all, we value honest performances. Our mission is to create spaces where audiences and artists gather to celebrate, contemplate, and illuminate what it means to be human.
